Dropout Prevention Leader John Gomperts Joins Our Advisory Network
While an effective education is essential, young people need plenty of support outside of the classroom to succeed in school and ultimately in life. They need nurturing adults, safe and healthy environments, and opportunities to feel connected to their local communities—resources crucial to their full development.
Adopting this holistic approach means that we start investing in children when they are born and we don’t stop until they reach a path of self-sufficiency.
Even with more students graduating from high school than ever, millions of young people are still without diplomas or jobs. We can’t squander their potential. The nation’s future depends on it.
And that’s where committed leaders like John Gomperts come in.
Education Post is pleased to announce that John will be the newest addition to our Advisory Network. John is president and chief executive officer of America’s Promise Alliance, the nation’s largest partnership of organizations, communities and individuals dedicated to improving the lives of youth.
He is a highly respected civic leader who has devoted his career to growing the promise of young people through educational attainment and service work.
Before heading America’s Promise, he led AmeriCorps, the program that provides Americans of all ages the opportunity to engage in a year of intense national service.
In a recent interview on the Bloomberg EDU radio program, John talked about efforts to destigmatize high school dropouts, underscoring the importance of reaching out to them and ensuring they have a path to high school graduation and beyond: “Every young person in America should have a full opportunity to thrive, flourish and reach his or her full potential.”
It’s a goal we can all agree on.
